About Caris
I am a soon-to-be graduate of French and Spanish from the University of Strathclyde. This degree path has afforded me the opportunity of learning these two foreign languages in depth.
At the age of 17, I decided that rather than complete the non-compulsory sixth year, I would travel to the south of Spain to work as an au pair. My duties as an au pair involved encouraging and teaching the two young children in the family to speak the English language.
During the summer of my second year at university, I decided to spend time further enhancing my French language skills and to once again obtain experience in encouraging young people to learn the rudiments of a foreign language. I spent 2 months in Québec, Canada, tutoring a young girl who spoke no English whatsoever when I arrived.
During my university year abroad, I worked as a language assistant in a secondary school in the south of Spain. I applied all of the skills I acquired during my previous au pair and English tutoring experiences abroad. It was a very satisfying and rewarding job where children were constantly improving as a result of my input.

I have experience teaching a wide range of students, both in one-to-one settings and in front of a class. My students have ranged from primary age to adult learners.
My teaching method is entirely goal dependent and flexible. If the individual is looking to take classes in order to help with exams, I would assist in working with them by means of past papers, for example. However, I wish for my classes to be as immersive as possible, which means my students will be encouraged to learn via games, by reading articles/texts, and by watching programmes/films.
I am keen to help young people to fulfil their academic potential, whether they are at primary school level or are studying for National 4/5s, Higher Grade or Advanced Higher exams.
I welcome all levels of English learners for conversation/listening practise.
