About Sonia

I am a Law graduate from the University of Oxford, with a longstanding passion for literature and language. I achieved an A* in English Literature at A-Level and a Grade 9 in English at GCSE.

I want to teach because I understand how transformative strong reading and writing skills can be, not only for exams but also for confidence and future opportunities. English shaped my own academic journey, and I enjoy helping students develop clear expression, critical thinking, and a deeper appreciation of texts. My aim is to make lessons engaging, supportive, and genuinely empowering.

About the lesson

In our first lesson, I will carry out a focused assessment to gain an understanding of the student's current level, including strengths and areas of development. From this, I create a clear, structured improvement plan with measurable goals. Every student is different, and my teaching is carefully tailored to their specific exam board, texts, and academic aims.

Each lesson is planned in advance and typically lasts 60 minutes. Sessions combine skill-building, close textual analysis, model answers, and guided writing practice. I place strong emphasis on essay structure, argument development, clarity of expression, and high-level critical thinking which are the skills that separate good grades from top grades.

I provide detailed feedback after each session so students understand exactly how to improve. Where helpful, I also offer structured guidance on revision strategy, exam timing, and planning techniques.

I teach KS3, GCSE, and A-Level English Language and Literature, as well as adult learners seeking to strengthen their analytical writing. My aim is not simply short-term exam improvement, but building the confidence and intellectual independence that allows students to excel long-term.
