About Andrew

Why I want to teach: - As a high schooler who lacked the ability to have a tutor myself due to a working-class background and seeing actively how people with one were much better at handling workloads in University I got to understand just how necessary having someone who will work directly with you is not only for that subject but so you understand how University professor and tutoring systems work - As someone who has worked a lot recently in roles where I have to be the representative of students to some form of academic institution I have great experience with communication to students from all walks of life and with all forms of needs - I myself am on the waiting list for diagnosis of ADHD and understand how students who don't understand things at first are left behind without help due to the pace of the Scottish system and so want to help provide a structure for those who need it to achieve what they are actually capable of despite the system being actively against their teaching needs

Why I am a good authority on English Skills and lessons: - I graduated with an Advanced Higher level A with no tutor of my own, having written my dissertation in spare time between my 2 other Advanced Higher assignments and my application to Oxford University - I am a graduate of law from University of Dundee, wherein my essay skills were made to be honed to answering questions succinctly and with clear prose - I was depute president of Academics for Social Sciences, Humanities, Teaching and Law at UoD wherein I had a deep understanding and hand in helping the curricula of the University level Social Sciences courses and had to communicate clearly and in helpful ways to students directly My lessons are very focused in regards to a few things: - Helping understand and going over the texts which are being given for you to be examined on - Breaking the ideas down critically in a manner that the student leads, then seeing if they can defend their stance so as to build up critical confidence for not only that text but for whatever text they have to work with in higher levels - Giving different types of questions that work around the understanding of the text the student has at that point; with a purpose to prod them towards thinking about things they don't quite understand yet - With being around prelim time, past papers are likely to be used once the knowledge of the text and the skills have been built up.
