About Ashna
I currently study a double degree in Law (Honours) and Commerce (majoring in Accounting), and endeavour to study a PhD in Law post this, and feel that my English skills are beneficial for students to learn from. When I began high school, I found it difficult to write exactly how teachers were expecting me to write as nobody taught us exactly what to do to gain the highest category marks. It took a few months for me to adjust to the standard and teach myself, but from then on, I've been receiving the highest English marks in my school cohort and achieving English Dux for several years. Having tutored students in the past, I know exactly the strategies that can target your weaknesses in English writing and improve this, so that you can achieve the high mark you want. My approach is always student-centred and all materials will be based around what the students' needs are, ranging from discussing a school essay topic and tackling a similar sample piece together, to working through essay drafts and gathering alternative phrases or areas to use better vocabulary for more sophistication. My go-to concept is that all students can go from C's to A+'s with practice if someone is there to push them along the right path and correct their easily missable mistakes that aren't discussed in school.
I have received a range of awards in my schooling, from winning the History Teacher's Association of Victoria Historical Fiction Writing Competition (Year 9-10 Category) and having my piece published on their website, to my acceptance into the University of Melbourne Kwong Lee Dow Young Scholars Program, for those achieving beyond in school, and the Monash University Young Scholars Program. As a former State level Public Speaker and debater, I believe I possess the necessary communication and language skills that students can learn from. Additionally, I have been a two-time award recipient of The Australian Defence Force Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award, and a recipient of the AMPOL Best All-Rounder Award, which further accentuates my ability to uphold strong teamwork skills and passion for education, which are required when assisting students in reaching their potential.

As a student myself, it was hard to find the right style of writing to fit what the English subject required of me to do to attain 90+% marks in classes. However, I feel like I have found what it takes to ensure students' English writing skills continue to develop strongly, thereby improving in English assessments. My classes will run for an hour, where we specialise in School-based course work, and assist students in figuring out how to approach topics and to find the right writing style, whilst also enhancing their vocabulary. My lessons are aimed at Lower Secondary years (7-9) as these are the prime years in developing the necessary skills for VCE English. I have tutored a handful of students, whose marks went from C's when we began to A+'s by the end of a few months.

Details
I will be providing students with extra information and research about the topic they are exploring, whether it be about the school novel or about the structure of writing pieces, as well as assigning doable homework tasks to continually improve the skills of students. I will also be contactable at all times via email/text, and are available to happily assist should there be a need for that. I am also able to correct drafts for students, with a turnaround of 24 hours with detailed feedback and Youtube links to help understand recurring weaknesses, before I also explore the problems in class.
