About Michael
I am the only one of 5 children from a midwestern family farm who chose a path in academia! Starting with a degree in Biology from Purdue University, then later attending the University of Hawaii for a Master's, I continued the education trend at Arizona State University where I pursued doctoral work and engaged in scientific diving as a component of my research. Besides being a biologist/scientist by training, I am also a USCG certified Master Captain and PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, and have a lot of fun stories from the ocean I can relate to you!
I have a strong desire to help educate and share my experiences with others, and founded SEAS Alliance (seasalliance.org) as a way to help promote STEM education and outreach. I also enjoy time away from teaching and diving with my wife and 3 daughters, enjoying the beach and the outdoors in general when time allows!
