  • 1. Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

I teach Spanish, and for me, it's more than just a subject - it's a lifelong passion. My interest began early, not because I was always perfect at it, but because I loved how it challenged and inspired me. For example, when I was younger, I used to struggle with complex grammar rules, math problem-solving, but instead of giving up, I dug deeper. That "aha" moment of finally understanding something is what sparked my love for learning, and now, I want to give that same experience to my students. Over time, I realised that when you connect with a subject, it teaches you more than what's in the books; it teaches you patience, logic, creativity, and perspective.
  • 2. What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

My biggest motivation to teach comes from the mentors who shaped my life. I still remember a teacher who didn't just teach the syllabus, they taught me how to believe in myself. That moment changed everything for me. Teaching gives me a chance to be that person for someone else. I chose this profession because it allows me to make a difference, one student at a time. When I see a student go from "I can't" to "I did it," it's the most rewarding feeling. It's not just about knowledge, it's about confidence, growth, and life skills.
  • 3. How does your work help society?

I believe that every lesson has a ripple effect. When I help a student understand a concept, I'm not just improving their academic score - I'm empowering them to think critically, communicate better, and become more self-aware. A strong education is the foundation of any healthy society. Through teaching, I get to contribute to a more informed, skilled, and compassionate generation. My goal is to not only teach but to ignite a passion for lifelong learning in my students. In a world full of noise, education gives clarity, and I'm grateful to be part of that journey.
  • 4. If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

One role model who always inspires me is Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was not just a brilliant scientist and former President of India - he was also a passionate educator who believed that knowledge must be shared. His humility, dedication, and vision for youth empowerment resonate deeply with me. He once said, "Teaching is a very noble profession that shapes the character, calibre, and future of an individual." I try to carry that spirit into every class I teach.
  • 5. Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

Outside teaching, I love exploring creative spaces, reading, writing, and learning new things that challenge my thinking. I enjoy listening to podcasts on education, psychology, and personal growth. I'm also very passionate about mindfulness and fitness - I believe a healthy mind and body keep me energised and present for my students. Whether it's journaling, sketching, or simply going for a walk, these hobbies keep me balanced and grounded.
  • 6. Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

Yes - one story I'll never forget is about a student who came to me with a serious lack of confidence. She had been told repeatedly that she wasn't "good enough" at the subject. We started working together slowly, no pressure, just trust and small victories. After a few months, not only did she improve her grades significantly, but she also participated in a school competition for the first time - and won second prize. When she told me, her exact words were, "I did it because you believed I could." That moment reminded me that teaching isn't only about what you deliver - it's about the belief you instil. It's those quiet victories that stay with you forever.
