About Julia Marie
My training is not just academic. It is a living lineage passed directly through master teachers:
Strasberg through Robert Ellermann — one of the most respected master teachers working in the Stanislavski and Strasberg tradition. His influence on how I work with sensory experience, emotional truth, and the actor's instrument is present in every session I teach.
Hagen through Alice Spivak — I was personally entrusted to carry forward Alice Spivak's rehearsal methodology following her passing. Spivak was a direct collaborator of Uta Hagen and the artistic foundation of OnTheRoad Repertory. That responsibility lives in everything I teach.
Somatic truth through Alexander Technique — Full certification from The Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique. Tension is the enemy of emotion. The body is the instrument. Every session begins there.
I am a working professional actor with film credits including BACURAU — winner at the Cannes Film Festival. I perform. I audition. I know what it feels like to be in the room. That reality informs every coaching session I give.
I have coached Broadway actors, actors on national tours, and actors booking on those big streaming networks for shows you are watching.
I serve as a Teaching Associate at Denise Simon Acting and Coaching — one of the most respected acting programs in the New York and Westchester area — where I develop and facilitate acting programs for young and professional actors across multiple sessions annually.
I have directed productions recognized for psychological nuance and emotional truth at Theater Row, the Chekhov Festival in Connecticut, and OnTheRoad Repertory.
I am an Actors Equity Association member, National Alliance of Acting Teachers member, Certified Intimacy Captain, and Board Member at OnTheRoad Repertory.
The combination of working actor, master trained coach, certified somatic teacher, and experienced director is rare. Most coaches teach. I live the work alongside you.

What Sets Julia Marie Apart
I am a working professional actor. I bring the reality of the industry into every session because I live it.
My training is among the most rigorous available anywhere in the world:
NYU Tisch School of the Arts — BFA
LAMDA London — Classical Acting Degree
The Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique — Full Certification
Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute — Intensive study with master teacher Robert Ellermann
master teacher Alice Spivak
Robert Ellermann is one of the most respected master teachers working in the Stanislavski and Strasberg tradition. His influence on how I work with sensory experience, emotional truth, and the actor's instrument is present in every session I teach.
I was personally entrusted to carry forward the rehearsal methodology of legendary acting teacher Alice Spivak — direct collaborator of Uta Hagen — following her passing. That lineage lives in how I teach.
The Lineage I Carry
These are not just techniques. They are living methodologies passed down through master teachers who dedicated their lives to the truth of the craft.
I bring the reality of the industry into every session because I live it. My film credits include BACURAU — winner at the Cannes Film Festival. I have performed Off-Broadway, on national tours, and in award-winning film and television productions.
As a coach and acting teacher I work with:
Broadway actors
Actors on national and regional tours
Actors booking HBO, Netflix and the shows you are watching
Young actors booking their first professional roles
I am an Actors Equity Association member, a National Alliance of Acting Teachers member, a Certified Intimacy Captain, and a Board Member at OnTheRoad Repertory and Women Light the World.
My Lessons:
Sessions are one hour and structured to make every minute count.
Film and Television Sessions:
Every page of material requires approximately 30 minutes of focused work. For a standard audition with 3 pages that means:
1.5 hr. scene work and preparation
Plus an additional hour for filming and self-tape direction
I recommend booking these as separate sessions. The work needs to land in the body before the camera captures it. Rushing preparation and taping into the same day compromises both.
That said I understand the industry. Tight turnarounds happen. When they do we work efficiently and strategically to get you ready.
Theatre Sessions:
For theatre and scene work sessions are more expansive and process-driven. We go deeper into character exploration, relationship building, text analysis, and behavioral truth. The work takes the time it needs.
Session Formats:
Zoom — available for actors anywhere
In-person — ART New York City (Studio fee + travel fee)
On location — travel fee applies
What You Can Expect:
Alexander Technique based warm-up to release tension and find presence.
Scene and character work tailored to your material and goals.
Clear actionable notes after every session.
Follow-up feedback on recordings when applicable.
A process that meets you where you are and moves you forward.
Booking:
Available for professional working adults and young actors ages 7 and up. Single sessions and packages available.
Between Sessions and Feedback:
Session Follow Up – After any session send me up to two takes of material we worked on together and I will provide detailed notes. The work continues beyond the hour.
Sunday Feedback – Package Clients Only
For actors on a package plan I offer a weekly Sunday review. Send me any recording — audition prep, self-tape, scene work — and I will give you one round of professional feedback. (This is your chance to stay active and accountable between sessions. Get professional eyes on your work every week. Keep momentum going between bookings. Arrive at every session already moving forward).
My Training:
NYU Tisch School of the Arts — BFA
LAMDA London — Classical Acting Degree
The Philadelphia School for the Alexander Technique — Full Certification
Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute — Intensive study with master teacher Robert Ellermann
Intensive study w/ master teacher Alice Spivak (member of her theatre company)
My work carries a direct lineage — Strasberg through Robert Ellermann, Hagen through Alice Spivak, and somatic truth through Alexander Technique. These are not just techniques. They are living methodologies passed down through master teachers who dedicated their lives to the truth of the craft.
My Philosophy
Acting is believing.
We are experience makers.
Tension is the enemy of emotion.
The toolbox is what sets you free.
The energy that moves the space — that is you.

Perfect! I really appreciated the care, thoughtfulness, and integration of techniques that Julia brought to the lesson. Her understanding of the importance of the body in how we feel and perceive was evident even in one of the short exercises she shared with me. I found myself experimenting with it for days afterward.
Julia clearly has a depth of experience and cares about giving her students the tools they need to master where they place their attention and become effective professionals.View more reviews

Julia Marie is by far the BEST acting coach I've ever had. She meets everyone where they're at, and genuinely cares about both the artist and the craft. Her style is gentle but firm, she wants to see you succeed just as much as you want it. Through her coaching, I managed to book a principal role in a television series, develop my voice as an artist, and grow my self confidence both as a performer and a person. Without her guidence, I would not be who I am today. Each session with her is absolutely transformative and therapeutic, and I cannot recommend her enough to anyone willing to hone their craft. If you take lessons with Julia, you won't just have a teacher, you'll get a mentor, a friend, and an ally all in one. She truly is the best :)
Julia is the most talented, patient, hard working, dedicated, and professional acting teachers I have had the honor of working with. She is an extraordinary acting coach whose insight, intuition, and passion truly set her apart. She has a rare gift for creating a space that feels both deeply supportive and creatively electric, allowing you to explore your craft with confidence and authenticity.
Her ability to see the truth in a performance, and gently guide you toward it, is nothing short of remarkable. She doesn’t just teach acting; she empowers you to connect to your voice, your story, and your full artistic potential. Working with Julia is not only transformative as an actor, but also as a human. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I cannot wait for our next lesson!Julia has been (online) teaching or coaching my daughter for over a year now, both in a class/group setting and one on one. My daughter absolutely adores Julia and so do I. She is kind, encouraging and most importantly an excellent and skilled acting teacher. She has a way of showing students how to access the parts of themselves that bring their characters to life. She asks the right questions and has the student do the work (vs. telling them how she would do it/feeding them lines). My daughter has learned so much and has grown in her craft and as a professional actress. Julia believes in my daughter and it feels like she is on this journey with us. She goes above and beyond for my daughter and it is apparent that she truly cares for her students. We cannot recommend her enough!
