About Josie
Hi, I’m Josie McClure – a performing saxophonist and passionate teacher based in Cape Town/Stellenbosch. I recently completed my second Master’s degree at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. I also have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree (Cum Laude) in Classical Saxophone Performance from Stellenbosch University.
My love for the saxophone began at the age of ten, and it’s been the heart of my journey ever since. Today, I’m dedicated to sharing that passion with students who are just as fascinated by this expressive and versatile instrument.
As an active performer, I collaborate with composers on new works for the saxophone and am deeply involved in research that promotes South African saxophone compositions. My work is driven by a commitment to expand the saxophone’s repertoire and reach, both on stage and through scholarship. While I specialize in classical saxophone, I’m equally excited by crossover projects and have experience performing in a wide range of musical styles.
Whether you're a total beginner or a more experienced player, I’m here to help you grow at your own pace. I believe that every student is unique, so I tailor each lesson to your individual goals, needs, and musical interests.
All ages and skill levels are warmly welcome – whether online or in person.

I have broad teaching experience both in South Africa and internationally, having taught at the Stellenbosch Conservatorium and in schools in South Africa and The Hague, NL. Teaching is one of my greatest joys—I believe in making music accessible, fun, and fulfilling for students of all ages and levels.
I tailor each lesson to the student’s unique goals and musical interests. In our first session, we’ll discuss your vision, which will help me design a personalised lesson plan. I believe in a well-rounded approach to learning the saxophone—combining technique, music theory, and, most importantly, plenty of playing.
Whether you’re picking up the saxophone for the first time or preparing for your recital, I’d love to help you reach your musical goals.
