About Kimberly
My name is Kimberly, and I bring 27 years of experience as an elementary educator, with a strong background in teaching 5th grade and supporting students across a range of learning needs. I am trained in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), which has deepened my understanding of how students learn to read and how to provide effective, research-based instruction.
Throughout my career, I have been passionate about helping students grow not only academically, but also in confidence. I understand that every child learns differently, and I take pride in creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel safe, capable, and motivated to succeed. My approach is patient, structured, and tailored to meet each student where they are.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have worked closely with teachers and students to strengthen literacy instruction and improve outcomes. This has given me a well-rounded perspective on how to identify learning gaps and provide targeted support that truly makes a difference.
I am committed to professionalism, clear communication, and building strong relationships with both students and families. My goal is to help each student not only improve their skills, but also develop a lasting confidence in their ability to learn and grow.

My approach to tutoring is rooted in building confident, capable readers through structured, research-based instruction and strong relationships. With 27 years of experience in the classroom and training in LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling), I use a structured literacy approach that is explicit, systematic, and tailored to each child’s needs. I believe students grow best when instruction is clear, engaging, and responsive, so I take time to understand each learner and adjust my teaching to support their success.
In a typical lesson, I begin with a quick review of previously taught skills to build retention and confidence. From there, I introduce or reinforce a targeted skill—such as phonics patterns, fluency, vocabulary, or comprehension—using explicit modeling and guided practice. Students then have opportunities to apply their learning through reading, writing, and discussion. I also incorporate engaging, hands-on activities when appropriate and always include time for feedback and encouragement. Lessons are purposeful, structured, and designed to help students make steady, measurable progress.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my combination of deep classroom experience, specialized training in the science of reading, and a genuine passion for helping students grow. I don’t rely on one-size-fits-all strategies—instead, I use data and observation to guide instruction and ensure each child gets exactly what they need. I also prioritize building a positive, encouraging environment where students feel safe to take risks and develop confidence in their abilities.
My lessons are ideal for elementary students, particularly those in grades 1–5, who may need support in reading, spelling, or overall literacy development. This includes students who are struggling readers, those who need to strengthen foundational skills, or students who simply need an extra boost to reach their full potential. I also work well with students preparing for state assessments or looking to build stronger comprehension and writing skills.
