About Katrina
I am a student at Godalming College studying German, English Literature and Psychology at A-level (second year), predicted A*AB. I have completed a short “Teaching English as a Foreign Language” course and I am equipped with skills to help GCSE students at different levels of ability and understanding. I have also completed a “Higher English” course, alongside my English Literature A-level, and so I am happy to support students with building on their contextual knowledge of set texts / any needed wider reading.

To begin with I will ask what students want to improve on in order to make progress, for example contextual and general understanding of the texts, character development etc. From there I will prepare exercises that will help students to plug in gaps in their knowledge, for example identifying specific themes through focusing on different passages in texts, language analysis ie patterns, symbolism. Consolidating newly learnt information is very important for students to apply their knowledge, and I will provide worksheets and creative activities to help students best retain information. I will present information online through PowerPoints and scanned pages in the texts, where we will read through key scenes, picking out key quotations and patterns in language/form. In my PowerPoints, I will summarise any annotations made and provide contextual knowledge in order to help students to best understand, interpret and analyse texts. Additionally, we will look at sample questions from GCSE style papers which will encourage students to engage in writing practice, and get to grips with what is required in essay writing. However, I will provide support to students regarding essay structure, and we will discuss what could be written in response to a set question.
