About Amy
I am a 2nd year A-level English Literature student, with a passion for reading and writing and an aspiration to study journalism at university. Let's face it—English can be tricky, and sometimes, it's even worse when the text is the most mind-numbing book you've ever read in your life...(I've definitely been there)! Not every text you read for your GCSE course, or in life in general, will be your cup of tea; but that is why I am so passionate about teaching others and sharing the knowledge that I have. It's definitely okay to not 'gel with' your texts 100%, but my goal is not only to help you ace your exams, but to also share my passion for Literature with you and help you cultivate your own distinct taste for, preference and critical engagement with texts. Of course, I do believe I am able to help you with the examined side of GCSE English as I have helped two students achieve two A* and two B grades respectively in both English Language and Literature from grade C predictions; but besides this, I also want to ensure that I help you to build your own personal skills and skills that are transferable from studying English to everyday life :).

These lessons are aimed at Year 10 and 11 students, aged 15-16, who are looking for extra assistance in GCSE English Language and/or Literature, or who need an extra challenge. The typical length of a lesson will be around 60-75 minutes in the week, with Saturdays offering more flexibility and potentially longer lessons as the tutee sees fit. I already have some experience as an English tutor to two students this year: helping one go from a 4 (C) to an 8 (A*) in 3 months, and the other from a 4 (C) to a 6 (B) in 1 month for the 2025 GCSE exams. My teaching method involves me working closely with students and their teachers and/or parents in order to tailor lessons specifically to their goals and strengths (whilst also challenging them to work outside of their comfort zone) in order to make more personalised lesson plans that will allow students to quickly and easily reach their goals—both personal and academic; whilst simultaneously cultivating their own personal passion for the subject.
