About Haley
My name is Haley Parker and I am certified in Elementary Education and maintain my reading, ESE, and ESOL endorsement. In the school year 2020-2021 I worked heavily with struggling readers in all grade levels to provide small group reading instruction. My goal is not only help you improve your reading skills but to enjoy learning. I always aim to make learning fun and increase your confidence. You are capable of anything, even hard things! We will see growth in your reading skills which is going to help you grow in all other subjects as well. I am looking forward to supporting you!

The ability to read fluently and comprehend what you are reading directly impacts your success in all other subjects. My approach to reading instruction is heavily influenced by your stage. For my younger kiddos, I like to do lots of repeated readings, phonological awareness activities, and phonics to improve word recognition and fluency. For my older kiddos, we really start focusing on comprehension and expanding vocabulary. I will first get your current reading level and I will introduce books and stories to you for us to read through and talk about. Each time we read we will go over some extended response questions to build your comprehension. We will also practice how to uncover the meaning of words using context clues. In addition to this, while reading you will be explicitly taught the skill of annotating the text! I love to teach reading and I love to make it a fun and rewarding experience.
