I’m Ted! I am a certified elementary teacher who is passionate about instilling a love of learning, math and problem solving in my students through joyful and engaging teaching. I graduated with honors and a full tuition merit scholarship from Vanderbilt University, majoring in Elementary education and cognitive science. Using the combined knowledge from my majors, I utilize research based techniques in motivation, effective learning techniques, and relationship building to create an atmosphere of growth and excellence with my students. I believe every student has the capacity to excel and build their confidence if they have the right teacher. During my tutoring, I deliver student centered direct instruction through warmth and humor. I introduce content with manipulatives and concrete examples in a real world problem solving context. Through questioning strategies, I lead students to discover answers for themselves and reap the confidence rewards of becoming a problem solver.
I have one and a half years of tutoring experience, six months of student teaching experience as a 4th grade math teacher and Kindergarten teacher where I was rated by my university as, “consistently above expectations”. I currently work as a teacher at Dot to Dot academy preschool because the setting allows me to provide the one-on-one attention I believe every child deserves.
