About Rueben
- I am a recent graduate from the University of Glasgow with an Honours degree in Linguistics and French, thus my life has revolved around the study of language and communication for the past 5 years.
- In addition to having spoken French as a language at home since the age of 14, I spent a year Québec, Canada, living day-to-day and studying through the medium of French
- I have formally studied four modern foreign languages at university (French, Portuguese, German, & Japanese) and continue to learn a number of others in my free time (notably Hungarian & Polish)
- I have been recruited as a French teaching assistant for secondary school students both in the classroom and on excursions to France
- I teach French to older adults with the organisation 'LingoFlamingo'. Many of these classes tailored to those living with mild cognitive decline / dementia, using French as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to improving cognitive health
- I am pursuing a career in clinical linguistics / speech & language therapy

When it comes to the obstacle that learning can be, a tailored, interactive approach is an absolute must. As Einstein supposedly once said: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid". I want to emphasise that tutoring is a collaborative process and my lesson structures and styles can be shaped to best fit the needs and goals of the student.
I am a firm believer in application and manipulation of newly acquired knowledge as the best means of testing one's understanding, mastering concepts, and identifying areas of improvement. The learning process can take some weird and wonderful forms so I am all for getting creative! I encourage you to make mistakes and make them again. There are no stupid questions!

I know Rueben as a friend and as a tutor. He has helped me proofread my assignments and taught me french. He has the ability to keep me interested in the topic by coming up with relevant examples and he is ready to explain the same thing multiple times patiently if necessary. The lessons were fun with him and his professionalism was evident. Rueben is pedantic and he knows what he is talking about when it comes to his expertise. I believe teaching has to be entertaining and the teacher's passion should be motivational. Rueben excels in both of these!
