About Siyu
Hi, it's really nice to see you here! My Chinese name is Siyu Sun, and you can call me Estelle instead:) Now I am an undergraduate student in UC San Diego, major in Business Economics. I'm from Beijing, China, and grew up speaking standard Mandarin. But since I attended middle and high school in two very different cities, and have lived in many other parts of China, I also have a deep understanding of local dialects and cultures. So what I want to teach isn't just "Mandarin" — it's about digging deeper into China's language and culture, helping my students master Chinese in a more holistic way.

**My Teaching Method and Techniques:** My teaching approach is all about making learning fun and engaging. I don’t believe in forcing students to study with tons of reading assignments or heavy homework. Instead, I like to use Chinese songs, videos, and interactive materials to immerse students in the language and culture. This method sparks students’ natural interest in learning Chinese and helps them connect with the language in a fun way, rather than making it feel like a chore. I also believe that learning through context and cultural exposure allows students to not only learn the language but also understand the culture behind it. **A Typical Lesson Plan:** In a typical lesson, we’ll start with a quick review of what we've covered before, then dive into a new topic using interactive exercises like listening to a Chinese song or watching a short video. Because the expressions in Chinese songs and videos are authentic, we’ll carefully go over the new vocabulary, phrases, and basic grammar, discussing them in the context of the song or video. I encourage students to actively participate in conversations, ask questions, and practice pronunciation. The goal is to have students use Chinese in real-life situations, learning both formal and informal aspects of the language. Each lesson is tailored to the student’s level, interests, and goals. **Who the Lessons Are For:** My lessons are for learners of all levels—whether you’re just starting with Mandarin or want to improve your fluency. I work with students who want to learn Chinese for academic, travel, or business purposes, as well as those interested in exploring Chinese culture. Whether you're preparing for a degree program, studying for a Chinese exam, or just want to learn more about Chinese culture, my lessons are customized to fit your specific needs and goals.
