About Thanumi

I am a LLB Law graduate. I have a passion for English Literature and Language! Throughout my academic journey, I have experienced many ups and downs and didn't always feel that I had the necessary support to unlock my academic potential. I have used Tutor sites before and was taught by some great individuals who provided me with tailored advice in order to improve my grades. I believe everyone progresses differently. Some students take longer than others. I was one of these individuals. Regardless of how long you take to progress, it does not matter because everyone has the ability to grow and unlock their academic potential with the right help. I have always loved English and once you grasp the understanding of the key features it can be a lot easier to improve within the subject. I would love to use all that I have learned throughout my experience with English, to help students improve and also enable them to develop their writing skills that can help them in other subjects. Every student is different and it is important to adapt to individuals' needs in order to create the best environment for them to learn. About the lesson

The way I structure my sessions depends on the student's needs. I will always start with the basics and ask the student questions. This allows me to gauge if there are any gaps in their knowledge alongside areas they wish to improve on. I will ask students to update me on what they are learning at school, how they found their lessons, and what their teacher hopes to cover in upcoming weeks. This gives me an idea of other topics I can refer to in alignment with the school schedule, so I don’t confuse/overwhelm my student. Exam technique is also vital and will in every session discuss a past paper question with my student and allow them to write a paragraph to the question. We then would discuss what they did well and any improvements to be made. Therefore, over time students get used to writing techniques expected for their exams step by step and progress steadily. The lessons are interactive and I will ask students questions and they can ask as many questions as they like. I will always explain and help them with any issues or aspects they don’t understand. Having conversations about the GCSE texts and their ideas, encouraging analysis verbally will help when having to be analytical in exams.
