About Amelia
I approach piano teaching with a holistic philosophy that balances technical training, artistic expression, and personal growth. I start with fundamentals—posture, finger strength, rhythm, and reading skills—and gradually introduce more advanced concepts like phrasing, dynamics, and harmonic analysis as students progress. The art of teaching piano, to me, is about combining rigorous technical development with the cultivation of a student’s unique artistic voice in a welcoming and stimulating environment. I start lessons by emphasizing the importance of solid fundamentals such as finger strength, hand coordination, accurate rhythm, and sight-reading.
I connect these foundational skills to a diverse repertoire tailored to each student’s tastes and aspirations, whether that means classical masterpieces, jazz improvisations, popular music, or original songs. My teaching integrates music theory and ear training as vital tools for deeper musical understanding and enhanced interpretation. Creativity is at the heart of my approach; I encourage students to improvise and compose regularly to foster musical confidence and personal expression.
Technology is also an essential part of my lessons—I use recording equipment, metronomes, and practice apps to provide real-time feedback and motivate consistent, effective practice. Above all, I strive to create a nurturing atmosphere where students feel inspired, supported, and free to take risks and learn from mistakes.
