About Kim

As an educator, my top priority is to make sure that students understand that every lesson has its value. The value is found in being able to apply the skills learned to multiple areas of their academic careers as well as areas of face-to-face and written communication. As I am potentially preparing each student for a career of their choice, I'm ever mindful that my conduct and presentation can influence each student I come in contact with. Because of this, my classroom will be one that alludes the highest principles of professionalism, punctuality and integrity.

I approach every lesson with a student-centered philosophy of engaging the student to get the best results. A typical class starts with an engaging warm-up activity that frames the lesson of the day. To begin a lesson on essay writing, I would start with brainstorming possible essay topics by having students acknowledge a real-world topic or issue that concerns them. From there, we would move into giving time for the student to write down all the things that they know about the topic or issue. Research into the topic is not off the table as it would serve as background and support for the topic. This would be Day 1 of a week-long plan of each step of the writing process (Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Producing the Final Product).

The lesson could be adapted for middle school and high school students. An additional day or two for a full research paper whenever needed.
