About Roisin

Hello! My name is Roisin, but you can call me Ro :)

Born in London to a French father, I grew up bilingual, speaking both English and French fluently. This early exposure to languages ignited a lifelong passion for communication and cultural exchange, which led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in French and Spanish from King’s College London. During my studies, I spent semesters abroad in Aix-en-Provence and Mexico City, immersing myself in the local languages and cultures, which deepened my love for the Spanish-speaking world.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with UNESCO in Paris, where I engaged in international projects and developed a deeper appreciation for education and sustainable development. My experiences in Latin America allowed me to indulge in Spanish-speaking life, connecting with people and exploring the rich diversity of the language.

I am passionate about teaching because I believe that language is a bridge to new opportunities and perspectives. My proactive teaching approach is designed to make learning enjoyable, engaging, and effective, drawing on my own experiences of navigating different languages and cultures.

Outside of teaching, I’m an outdoor enthusiast—I love hiking, swimming in rivers, and enjoying nature’s bounty, whether that’s picking fresh fruit or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. I’m also an avid dancer, always keen to learn new steps and rhythms from around the world.

I look forward to supporting you on your language learning journey, bringing not just expertise but also enthusiasm and a genuine love for teaching. Let’s make learning languages a fun and rewarding experience together!

Teaching Methodology: Practical, Engaging, and Student-Centred

With a background in teaching English as a foreign language to asylum seekers, my approach is dynamic, interactive, and designed to meet each student’s needs. I believe language learning should be engaging, which is why I incorporate a variety of activities, exercises, and visual aids into my lessons. My focus is on practical language skills—speaking, grammar, and real-life communication—rather than literature, ensuring that you can use English confidently in everyday situations.

Outline of a Typical Lesson:

Warm-Up and Review: Each lesson begins with a quick recap of what was covered previously. This helps to refresh your memory and reinforces retention through repetition, which is key to effective learning.

Introduction of New Content: We then move into the main part of the lesson, introducing a new grammar point, vocabulary theme, or speaking topic. I use real-world scenarios, visuals, and prompts to make the content engaging and relevant to your needs.

Interactive Practice: Here, learning becomes hands-on. You’ll participate in interactive activities like role-plays, dialogues, and conversation exercises that encourage you to use English in realistic contexts. This approach not only builds your speaking skills but also boosts your confidence in using the language.

Practical Application: We’ll work on tasks that allow you to apply what you’ve learnt, such as sentence-building exercises, guided writing, or problem-solving activities. These tasks are designed to reinforce your understanding and provide you with practical language skills.

Feedback and Corrections: I provide immediate feedback, offering constructive corrections to help you improve. This part of the lesson ensures you understand the material thoroughly and can use it effectively.

Wrap-Up and Homework: At the end of each lesson, we summarise what we’ve covered and address any questions. I often set light homework tasks to keep you engaged between sessions and to reinforce what we’ve learned.

Student Experience and Support:

My goal is to create a supportive and comfortable learning environment where you feel encouraged to participate and make mistakes—because that’s where the real learning happens. I strive to be more than just a teacher; I aim to be a mentor and a friend, helping you overcome any fears you may have about language learning.

My focus is on practical communication skills, ensuring you build a strong foundation in the language before moving on to more complex materials like literature. By prioritising speaking, grammar, and active practice, my lessons will equip you with the confidence and skills needed to achieve your language goals.
