About Maya
Hi! My name is Maya, and I'm a 26-year-old Master's graduate who loves to share my excitement and love for reading and learning. I was born and raised in Australia, and I did all my education (except for my Master's degree) in Australia. More specifically, I completed my Victorian Certificate of Education in 2016; I deferred studying for a year, and then returned re-energized to complete my Bachelor's degree at the University of Melbourne, where I studied Arts with a double major in Psychology and Cultural Studies. I loved that experience so much, that I undertook an additional, Honours year, during which time I gained more experience with research and thesis writing. I had the opportunity to do my Master's degree internationally, which allowed me to gain more insight, expand my understanding of culture, and develop my critical analysis skills using different methods and theories. I thus completed a Master's in Arts and Culture at the University of Amsterdam in 2024, and that is where I currently live. Nevertheless, I am most familiar with the Australian education system, and I would love to share my skills and love for education and studying with younger students. I hope my varied education and years of experience will provide new and interesting ways for students to engage with their own studies.

Though I live abroad, I am available for tutoring lessons at all hours; indeed, the time difference ensures I will be available at times when other tutors may not be. As a tutor, I work alongside the students and their individual needs. I have extensive personal experience with time management, and the necessity of dividing attention between a number of subjects or projects. I use this experience to create a personalised study guide for each student, aiming to utilise the student's strengths to produce the best results. I always familiarise myself well with the texts that my students are working with, to ensure I can provide the best assistance and guidance that I am capable of.
Though my lessons are aimed at high school-aged students, I also enjoy adapting my skills and expertise for younger children who may need help with reading and writing. Additionally, my lessons range between shorter and longer sessions. The shorter, half-hour sessions are better suited for those students who work well independently but would like some more input and correction from a tutor. Lessons may be as long as two hours, for those students who would prefer more contact with a tutor and feel they require more guided help. Alternately, longer sessions can also serve as supervision for private, independent studying, for students who may be easily distracted or who would like to have a tutor nearby to answer questions and regularly check work.
