About Jake

Hi there! My name is Jake, and I’m attaining a first class MSc degree in Pharmacology and Drug Discovery at the University of East Anglia. I have extensive research experience in medicinal chemistry/molecular biology environments. Other relevant experience includes; organiser of an outreach event at the Norwich science fair, Vice President of the UEA Pharmacology Society, and performed a talk at my sixth form college to promote the study of pharmacology at UEA.

> Grades A, A, B in Chemistry, Physical Education and Biology at A Level, respectively.
> 10 GCSEs: 9 in English literature and Physical Education, 8 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

I knew I loved science from an early age, with a strong curiosity towards the natural world we grow up, live and interact within. Why do things work the way they do? How do things work the way they do?

You have probably found that once you begin to find the answers to these questions, even more questions arise - and that is a fundamental (and perhaps at first frustrating) part of science at all levels of understanding. My interest in science was born through a hunger for knowledge.

Eventually, it came to a point where the ever-expanding questions and answers became applicable in contributing something to the world. For example, once you understand how the human body functions, naturally you would then learn where, why and how it can go wrong. In my case, this ignited my passion for science, where I wanted to then understand how the medicines we use are created. Now, I am in my final year of university studying a masters degree in pharmacology and drug discovery with the hopes of pursuing a career in cancer research.

I wouldn’t be in this situation if not for my brilliant teachers throughout my education, so I feel that it’s only right for me to lead on and do the same for you. I want you to get the grades you need to enable the aspirations you have in your life, so it would be a pleasure to be your tutor. I primarily aim to educate, but any inspiration you take away is a massive bonus.

Thanks for checking out my advertisement, and I hope to hear from you soon.

At face value, a multifaceted field like science can seem daunting. I’m here to show you that science is in fact accessible to everybody, with the right approach.

Budding scientists like yourselves require a tutor that can provide you with solid confidence in your level of understanding. As a UK-based student who has pursued a passion in science all through my academic life, I’ve been in your shoes. I have recognised that a tutor is not just a teacher, but a tailor of education. Steering clear of a one-size-fits-all approach, my priorities for you are as follows:
> Sufficient preparation - no one wants to be thrown into the deep end.
> Active listening and discussion with you to establish an engaging, effective style of teaching.
> Assurance in the resolution of the subject matter.
> Supplementation of modern learning resources to use at your disposal.
