About Sara

I've always loved English because it's one of the few subjects that never feels limited. From studying it at GCSE and A-Level to writing essays throughout university and now during my Master's degree in Economics & Public Policy, English has remained a constant throughout my academic journey.

Although my studies today focus more on political economy, the skills I developed through English such as critical thinking, communication, analysis and persuasive writing — are ones I use every single day. In many ways, English doesn't stop at school; it follows you into every walk of life.

What I love most about English is its range. One lesson you might be analysing Shakespeare and exploring the social expectations of the Jacobean and Elizabethan periods, and the next you could be discussing the mystery of An Inspector Calls, the unsettling world of Jekyll and Hyde or the powerful messages hidden within poetry. Equally, English isn't just about analysing texts; it's about learning how to communicate effectively, build arguments, question ideas and express yourself with confidence.

I think there is a misconception that English is simply about writing essays, when in reality it encourages creativity, curiosity and independent thought in a way that few other subjects do. Students can create entire worlds through creative writing, craft compelling arguments in non-fiction pieces or develop unique interpretations of a text and there is rarely one "correct" answer, and that's what makes the subject so engaging!

As a tutor, I aim to share that enthusiasm with my students. My goal is not only to help them achieve their target grades, but also to help them develop skills that will benefit them far beyond their GCSEs. Whether a student goes on to study science, law, economics or medicine, the ability to communicate clearly, think critically and write persuasively will always matter. Helping students build those skills, while growing in confidence along the way, is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

My lessons are built around two things: understanding and practice. I've found that many students struggle because they're taught how to answer questions without really understanding what the examiner is looking for. I focus on breaking down concepts, texts and exam skills in a way that makes sense, before putting them into practice through exam-style questions and targeted feedback.

Every student is different, so I don't follow a one-size-fits-all approach. Lessons are tailored to each student's strengths, areas for improvement and individual goals, whether that's building confidence, securing a pass or aiming for the top grades. I also adapt lessons to fit the student's timeline, creating a clear plan towards mocks, assessments and final GCSE exams.

Lessons are typically 90 minutes long, which gives us enough time to learn new content, practise skills and review mistakes without feeling rushed. I have over four years of tutoring experience and have taught both privately and in tuition centre settings. Alongside tutoring, I work as an Assessment Associate for Pearson, which has given me valuable insight into assessment standards and what strong responses look like.

My lessons are mainly for students aged 14–16, including Year 9 students preparing for GCSEs and students currently studying GCSE English Language and English Literature.
