About Andy
I am a certified high school science teacher with a Master's in Education. For the past twenty years I have taught grades 9-12 science in public high schools in Oregon. I regularly taught physical science, biology, chemistry, and physics, occasionally also teaching astronomy, environmental science and anatomy & physiology. In addition, I ran a Talented and Gifted program and have experience teaching advanced students.

I believe that the best way for a student to learn is by doing, and I use a variety of questioning techniques to elicit higher level thinking/problem solving skills in my students. I first determine the level and pace of my students, then I push them to improve from that baseline. I also believe learning should be fun and use humor in my classes when appropriate.

I took all my high school science classes with Mr. Crocker. (It still feels weird to call him Andy!) He's the kind of teacher who so thoroughly enjoys their subject that they light up when explaining something they find particularly fascinating. I remember finally understanding a concept about color and light that he was trying to teach us. (Lord, I hope I explain this correctly.) I raised my hand to repeat the concept in my own words to make sure I understood. "So, if color is a reflection of light, then when the sun goes down and the light fades and everything becomes darker, the objects you see actually change color based on the available light to reflect off of them?" We both laughed at how cool that is. Mr. Crocker is kind, passionate, and engaging. He's the kind of teacher you WANT to learn from. I’d take classes from him all over again if I could.
Andy Crocker is the number 1 teacher that helped prepare me for college. His classes were always difficult yet very rewarding and he had an expansive knowledge of the subject matter. He would always allow the students to come to their own conclusions first while attempting to steer them towards the correct answer. If you're looking for a tutor there is nobody else that I'd rather recommend than him. He truly cares about his students and wants the best out of each and every single one of them.
Mr. Crocker was the science teacher for the high school I attended and I can confidently say he is the only one who prepared me for what a real college classroom would look like. I learned so much during my time in his classroom and he made it a lot of fun while doing it with exciting examples and hands on labs that gave me most, if not all, of my critical thinking skills! I highly highly recommend soaking up as much knowledge as you can from this truly incredible teacher. :)
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Andy in class in a number of subjects. Whether it was physical science, medical terminology or anatomy and physiology, he is very knowledgeable in every subject. Andy teaches you methods in class that you can take beyond your time with him and use in your everyday life. He is extremely helpful and understanding in a variety of topics. Without his patience and attentiveness I wouldn’t have been able to make it through my work! He also has a good sense of humor to make your day brighter (especially if you like puns).
Andy is not only incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable, but he also is very supportive, and good at explaining complicated topics in an easy to underatand way. He loves to have a sense of humor and he is very kind to his students. 10/10 would recommend.
