About Emily
I want to teach mathematics because I believe anyone can do mathematics and it opens up many opportunities for your future. I want to help students achieve their full potential and even go above and beyond expectations.
As mentioned I received an A at A level and a first class honors in BSc Mathematics and German. As a result:
I had the opportunity to move to a different country, Germany, where I studied at Hamburg University. I met amazing people and learnt a new culture.
Using my mathematics with German degree I was offered a job with one of the biggest banks in the world and my first job was in Canary Wharf in London. During this time I used my mathematics skills to use sophisticated mathematical models to solve real world problems and overcome interesting challenges.
If you can get your mathematics GCSE's and/or A levels (or even a degree). It opens up so many opportunities to you and your future.
We need more mathematics students to help solve some of the biggest and most exciting problems, therefore I'm passionate about helping younger students achieve their grades and find their feet so they can overcome any mathematics challenges they have.

I begin by explaining why what I'm teaching is important, provide insights into real world applications and careers that use these skills.
Lessons last an hour on the students desired time interval (weekly/biweekly). The sessions are for GSCE or A level.
I use a personalised and flexible approach where I tailor lessons for that tutee as everyone learns differently, thus maximizing the benefit for the tutee (this is essential).
I create a safe space to ask questions and make mistakes as this is key to learning and improving.
A strategy I personally use - is going the extra mile in practice. This means practicing questions which are harder than your goal. For example if students are aiming for an A I would get them solving A * questions. This is highly effective in getting the desired grade or above but also building confidence in the tutee as they see they can actually do it. It also prepares them for 'surprise' exam questions which are thrown in a little harder or different than expected.
Lastly, a lot of exam paper practice, planning and strategy. You could be a really smart student but if you don't use the allotted exam time in the most efficient and effective way you risk loosing out on key marks which could push you up to the next grade boundary. This approach increases students confidence and effectiveness within the exam hall and is a key skill that will be useful for any maths exam in the future.

Emily is a great tutor, I struggle with maths and she helped me learn and understand it in a way that I could figure out, would highly recommend
Emily was a great and patient tutor. She adapted her teaching to suit my child’s need and with her help they achieved top grade maths results.
Great teacher and listener - I taught with her as part of an initiative which went into schools surrounding Canary Wharf to help primary school children learn to code. We had great feedback from children ans schools
You might think I'm bias because I'm her grandfather, but it's important to highlight she has managed to achieve her own goal by what we call "graft " in she hasn't a photographic memory and she has herself had tuition to help her achieve it. This experience and insight will really benefit your child's education.
