About Jonah
I am a molecular biologist performing biomedical research. I hold a masters degree and have three years experience working as a TA at both the undergraduate, and graduate level. This work involves grading, teaching, and tutoring students. I have specific education in teaching science courses at the college level and incorporate that into my tutoring.
I am in the process of applying to medical school and would be happy to share what I know about the processes. I am still learning myself but am also happy to share what I know of academia, research, and medical school applications.
The key pillars of my tutoring are: One on one mentorship, the importance of active learning, and acknowledging everyone has different skill levels and starting points in their education.
I believe one on one mentorship is an essential part of effective tutoring. I will make adequate time to work with you individually until a given topic makes sense. In line with this belief, I know active learning is an immensely effective teaching method as shown by numerous studies and meta data analyses. I incorporate this methodology in the form of practice problems, discussions about topics, and engaging activities. Finally, I understand that every person has their own strengths and weaknesses. I aim to cultivate and inclusive learning environment respectful and supportive of people of all backgrounds and life stories.

I offer undergraduate level lessons for general/intro biology, genetics, molecular biology, intro chemistry, and intro organic chemistry.
A typical lesson from me will involve me asking what topics are challenging, a discussion of the specific aspects that don't make sense, and subsequent incorporation of practice problems / examples.
