About Flora
Hi, I’m Flora! I’m an English Literature and Philosophy graduate from the University of Edinburgh, where I achieved a First-Class Honours degree, and I’ve recently completed an MA in Comparative Literature at Trinity College Dublin.
I’m an experienced tutor with a particular interest in English Literature, English Language, essay writing and critical thinking. I’ve worked with students of different ages and abilities, including GCSE students and younger learners, and I also have experience supporting students with philosophy and analytical writing.
As well as tutoring, I’m a poet and editor, so reading, writing and working with texts are a big part of my everyday life. I’m passionate about helping students become confident, independent thinkers and writers, rather than simply memorising information for exams.
I understand that English can sometimes feel subjective or difficult to approach, particularly when it comes to essays and analysing texts. My aim is to make lessons clear, engaging and tailored to each student, breaking down difficult concepts and helping them develop their own ideas and arguments.
Whether you’re preparing for exams, struggling with a particular text, or simply looking to improve your writing, I’d be very happy to help!

My lessons are relaxed, supportive and completely tailored to the individual student. That's why I spend some time chatting to my students first to find out what they struggle with, what they like doing best, or the best way they learn.
A typical lesson might begin by identifying a particular area to work on, followed by a clear explanation of the relevant skills or concepts. We might then analyse a text together, work through an essay question, practise structuring an argument, or tackle exam-style questions. I encourage students to ask questions and develop their own interpretations rather than simply giving them the answers.
For students preparing for exams, we can focus on exam technique, essay structure, close analysis, time management and understanding assessment criteria. For students who want to strengthen their general English skills, lessons can be adapted towards reading, writing, vocabulary and communication.
