My Teaching Approach and How I Share Knowledge:
As a tutor, my approach is grounded in helping students truly understand what’s happening at the base level—not just memorizing formulas or code, but grasping the why behind it. Whether it's solving math problems or writing a program, I believe deep understanding builds long-term confidence and independence.
I focus on:
- Breaking down complex topics into clear, digestible parts.
- Connecting new concepts to what the student already knows.
- Reinforcing understanding with real-world examples and practice problems.
- Encouraging active learning—asking questions, drawing diagrams, or explaining concepts back to me.
For math and computer science, understanding the underlying concept is everything. Once a student gets that, solving problems becomes easier, faster, and even enjoyable.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson is structured but flexible, depending on the student’s needs.
1) Review Prerequisite Skills
We quickly assess and reinforce any foundational knowledge needed for the topic.
2) Introduce Main Concepts
We go over what the topic is really about—what it means, where it’s used, and how it connects to previous topics.
3) Work Through the Math or Logic
We dive into how the concept is applied: equations, functions, code, etc., and work through examples together.
4) Practice & Test Questions
I guide the student through potential test-style problems and help them identify common traps, question patterns, and key techniques.
5) Wrap-Up & Mini-Review
We finish with a quick recap of what was learned and what to review for next time.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
I’ve been tutoring since high school—starting in Grade 12, I helped Grade 9 and 10 students with math and science. Since then, I’ve expanded into tutoring computer science and programming, combining my passion for tech with years of hands-on teaching experience.
I don’t just “help with homework”—I help students build confidence, curiosity, and the ability to tackle new problems on their own.
