About Jeffrey
I have been tutoring math ever since my high school years. After high school, I completed an undergraduate math degree at York University, graduating first class with distinction and receiving a multitude of awards (such as the DURA, the Alice Turner Award, and the Emerson Vincent Sauder Memorial Scholarship). I went on to complete a Master's in mathematics at McMaster University, with my Master's thesis focusing on the mathematics of knots. I am currently extending this research for my PhD project (also at McMaster)! So yes, I am mathematically qualified. But more importantly, I am a good teacher, I care about my students, and I want to share my love of math. I have hundreds of hours of TA work for McMaster to my name, so I know exactly how to get you the grade you want.

As a tutor, I like to take things slowly and methodically. My teaching often takes on a conversational tone, with solutions to a problem set or notes on a particular topic falling naturally out of discussion. I am highly adaptable, ready to change topic on the fly based on the student's strengths and weaknesses, and constantly adapting my teaching style to the student's needs.
A typical 1 hour lesson with me starts with 10 minutes of discussion on where the student is at, what they understand and what they don't, and what our goals for the day are. Next comes 40 minutes of working towards those goals, which typically takes the form of writing a nice set of notes on a topic the student finds confusing, or working through a problem set. Finally, the lesson ends with 10 minutes of discussion of the student's strengths and weaknesses, some recommended practice problems, and some time discussing those problems.
Of course, this is only a rough outline, and I am open to longer lessons. I offer tutoring to undergraduate math students in calculus, linear algebra, analysis, abstract algebra, and more.
