About Marty
I was born and raised in Los Angeles County and graduated from Clark Magnet High School in 2008 in the top 10 of my class and as a national AP Scholar.
Then I attended UCLA, where I earned my B.S. in Mathematics For Teaching (2012), my Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics, (2013) and my M.Ed. (2013).
I taught mathematics as a full-time classroom teacher at an East Oakland high school for four years from 2013 to 2017, and sent my high school graduates to leading universities such as UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Davis, UC Merced, CSU San Francisco, CSU East Bay.
I believe that mathematics as a discipline has been largely misrepresented in most of our curricula and schools, and as a result many students dread math. I love changing students' minds about that by representing math as the vivacious, expansive, beautiful, exciting ART that it is.
