About Md

Hello, my name is Md Mahtab. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Hunter College, with an expected graduation in Fall 2025. My passion for mathematics began in high school, where I frequently supported my peers during class and lunchtime study sessions in preparation for the Algebra 1 Regents exam. This early experience motivated me to volunteer at the Cypress Hills Library during my freshman year of college, where I tutored high school students in subjects such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Chemistry, and more. Currently, I serve as an Education Champion at Practice Benefit Corp, a tutoring organization that supports students from kindergarten through 12th grade. So far in the program, I have worked with students in grades 3 through 6, focusing on Common Core mathematics. In this role, I collaborate with classroom teachers to deliver targeted, culturally responsive instruction designed to help students succeed on the New York State exams. Through this program, I’ve strengthened my communication skills, adaptability, and ability to build meaningful connections with students—qualities I’m eager to bring to my work with Superprof.

Hello! I’ve had the pleasure of tutoring students of all ages, from young children to high schoolers, and this experience has taught me that effective teaching is about more than just subject knowledge—it’s about understanding each student’s unique learning style and building a meaningful connection. With younger students, I use engaging tools like diagrams, cubes, and interactive games to make lessons enjoyable and to foster both confidence and a love for math. For high school students, I take a more direct and respectful approach, treating them as young adults while helping them stay focused on their academic goals. What sets me apart from other tutors is that I am entirely self-taught—I developed my teaching methods independently rather than learning from others. I first gained experience by volunteering part-time at the Cypress Hills Library, where I tutored eight high school students. I grouped them strategically, assigned tasks, and guided them using the personal techniques that helped me excel in high school and on the Regents exams. As a result, my students improved their grades by approximately 35%. One of my most rewarding tutoring experiences has been at my current workplace, PRACTICE BC, where I worked with a sixth-grade student named Camila. She initially struggled with multi-step math problems and applying concepts consistently. By identifying her as a visual learner, I adapted my approach to include diagrams, color-coded steps, and real-life examples. Our sessions were highly interactive—I encouraged her to ask questions and articulate her thinking. With consistent support and practice, Camila's confidence grew, and she eventually earned a perfect score on a math test covering fractions and decimals. Moments like these reaffirm my passion for tutoring and my commitment to helping students succeed.
