About Sophie
My passion for mathematics emerged from a desire to help students move beyond fear of numbers to genuine understanding. This led me to complete an M.Sc in Mathematical Education, where I studied cognitive learning strategies, problem-solving techniques, and curriculum design for learners at all levels. Over the past 11 years, I have guided students through elementary school maths, middle school maths, algebra, geometry, and SAT maths, helping them build confidence, reasoning skills, and academic resilience. I teach with patience, empathy, and clear structure, tailoring lessons to match the pace and style of each learner. I emphasise multiple approaches, visual reasoning, real-life applications, and stepwise problem breakdowns so that even students who initially struggle can gradually master concepts. Watching learners grow from uncertainty to capability is deeply rewarding, and it drives my commitment to teaching. Outside the classroom, I enjoy developing practice materials, studying new problem-solving strategies, exploring advanced maths, and researching educational innovations. These activities help me keep lessons fresh, relevant, and engaging, ensuring students gain both strong skills and confidence that last beyond the classroom.

Mathematics becomes far less intimidating when students see it as a connected system of ideas rather than a collection of rules. In my lessons, I teach elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths, using calm, step-by-step explanations that build understanding, confidence, and analytical reasoning. I emphasise not only solving problems but also understanding the logic and structure behind each solution. Lesson plans are tailored to each student’s level. Beginners focus on basic numeracy, arithmetic fluency, early algebraic thinking, and pattern recognition. Intermediate learners develop proficiency in multi-step problems, geometry, algebraic reasoning, and proportional analysis. Advanced students refine SAT maths strategies, time management, critical problem-solving, and conceptual reasoning. Each session combines explanations, guided exercises, and interactive problem-solving to strengthen both skill and confidence. Maths lessons also help learners build patience, logical thinking, and independent problem-solving ability. As students gain mastery in algebra, geometry, and SAT maths, they become more confident in approaching challenges across multiple academic subjects. My goal is to cultivate competence, curiosity, and self-assurance, helping students develop both academic skills and lasting confidence in their mathematical abilities.
