About Shamir

I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher tutoring KS3, GCSE and A Level students. I have been tutoring for over a decade now and have successfully been running my own tutoring company since September 2023. I currently work at one of the top schools in the country and my tuition successes with my students has made me a very in-demand tutor with 30 current students!

Prior to my current school I became the youngest Key Stage Coordinator in the Maths department in September 2024. Alongside organising the KS3 curriculum, I also ran the planning of cross-curricular learning and all extension planning for high attaining students which includes running the Maths Excellence Club and the Junior Maths Challenge.

Alongside my normal tuition I also design my own resources which includes worksheets, revision packs and YouTube videos. The website has been a fantastic hit with both students and parents. Allowing students to access work outside of lessons has been extremely impactful. All these factors contribute to how different I am compared to most tutors.

My overall success with my students has enabled me to build a great network of parents who have been tremendously happy with how I have been helping their children in maths. Tutoring to me is not merely a matter of teaching a lesson for 1 hour. For every one of my students I create a google classroom where I upload work for them and always encourage them to upload their own work that they need help on at any point in the week so that support is always there for them. I also create a OneNote Notebook for all my students which will have all records of the work we’ve done. I organise all of this into folders by topic and date to make future revision for students extremely easy and effective. I can also make revision packs for students using the teaching tools at my disposal. My experience as a qualified examiner also aids with preparing these in the most effective manner.

I started tutoring over a decade ago during my Degree in Accounting and Finance. I then continued tutoring alongside my Master's in Finance then went onto completing my PGCE. After 2 more years of teacher training I then went onto completing another Master's in Mathematics Education which has not only further strengthened my ability of teaching/tutoring 1-to-1, but also helped me to develop in my role as KS3 Maths Coordinator.

I pride myself in the number of students I have helped over the past decade, all ranging in different abilities, with different targets for maths grades at different age levels. Over the years I have helped a significant number of students improve upon poor grades they have been receiving in school or lower results in exams than that which they want to achieve. Last academic year I was tutoring 23 students with 11 of them taking their GCSE and A-Level exams in the summer. My GCSE students received 2 grade 9's, 3 grade 8's and 1 grade 7, and my A-Level students received 1 A*, 3 A's and 1 B. I was extremely happy to see another successful year. I have helped a number of students to get into their universities. One of my A-level students did not receive the grades she wished to get in year 12 and I spent a few months helping her to reach her potential for her final A-level exams. From the first lesson I could see she was extremely bright but just needed the right guidance. I was able to teach her maths in a way that suited her best and this guided her to get the grade she needed to get into a Russell Group University. What I mainly focus on with students is to quickly identify the best way to teach them maths as all students are different and learn differently.

I was glad to hear that my other year 13 students got into the likes of University of Cambridge, University of Warwick and University of Bath. I hope to continue this run of strong results from my students into the future, as I have done for the last 8 years. When I began working with one of my year 11 students, when she was in year 7, I could see that she was more than capable of the year 8 syllabus. We reviewed the work that many students missed during lockdown then progressed onto the year 8 syllabus so that she would be ahead of her class. Last academic year she got a Gold in the Junior Maths Challenge and the second highest result in her year. Her and her mother both stated that the prep work we did together helped her tremendously. She is currently in Set 1 maths in her school and is on track to receiving a top GCSE result this academic year. One of my most successful students was a GCSE maths student who had been making impressive improvements with her grades in tests since I started working with her. She was working at a 2 (E) grade and over 3 months I helped her bring this up to a 5 (C) grade for her final mocks, which is the highest grade one can get in the Foundation Level Maths.

From 2017-2019 I was also working as a manager at one of the UK’s biggest camps, being one of the youngest managers as I quickly progressed through roles. I am a big football fan and have been coaching football, amongst other sports, over this time also. Some of my other interests are astrophysics and completing sketches in my portfolio. I believe that students really enjoy my lessons due to my character and how interested I am in building a good bond with them so that they can look forward to lessons and make the most out of it. The lessons I have are well structured and follow a sequence of learning over a long period of time which has consistently proved great outcomes for my students.

My first lesson with a student is often on a topic they are currently doing in school. This is done in order to gauge an understanding of how they learn, the speed at which they learn and what methods I could put into practice to help them develop. I co-founded a tuition company with my three colleagues and I use my worksheets, and other resources we make, to help students in and out of lessons. I usually arrange lessons through Zoom where I can use a graphics tablet to write.
