About Rick
My journey into mathematics began with a fascination for patterns, problem-solving, and logical reasoning. I earned an M.Sc in Applied Mathematics, where I gained expertise in advanced mathematical concepts and effective teaching methodologies. Over the past 13 years, I have worked with students across elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths, helping them build understanding, confidence, and independence. I teach with empathy, patience, and adaptability, ensuring explanations are tailored to each learner’s style and pace. I use step-by-step reasoning, visual aids, and real-life applications to make abstract concepts tangible. Many students who initially struggle gradually gain competence and self-assurance as they grasp underlying mathematical logic. Outside teaching, I continue developing instructional resources, refining methods, and staying updated with educational research. Teaching mathematics is immensely rewarding because it equips students with analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills that benefit them academically and in everyday life.

Mathematics becomes less daunting when students understand the reasoning behind each concept instead of memorising formulas mechanically. In my lessons, I guide learners through elementary school maths, middle school maths, geometry, algebra, and SAT maths using detailed explanations that emphasise patterns, logical connections, and step-by-step reasoning. This approach enables learners to build confidence and tackle complex problems systematically. Lesson plans are tailored to each learner’s level. Beginners focus on arithmetic, number sense, and foundational problem-solving strategies. Intermediate learners strengthen their understanding of algebra, geometry, and multi-step problem-solving. Advanced learners tackle SAT maths questions, reasoning strategies, and time management for efficient problem-solving. Guided practice, discussion, and reflection are integrated into every session to ensure thorough understanding. Maths lessons also develop critical thinking, patience, and analytical skills. As learners become more confident in concepts such as algebra and geometry, they approach problems with structured reasoning and calm perseverance. My goal is to help students internalise mathematical principles and develop skills that support academic success and lifelong problem-solving.
