About Ashlee

Medical student at the University of Manchester | Medicine Interview Preparation | A-level Biology & GCSE Biology and Chemistry

I’m a medical student at the University of Manchester with first-hand experience of the UK medical school application process. I successfully interviewed at the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool and Queen Mary University of London, and was fortunate to receive offers from all three. Having experienced different interview formats and approaches, I understand that preparing for Medicine is not simply about knowing what to say — it’s about being able to think clearly, communicate confidently and adapt to unfamiliar questions.

This is what motivated me to start tutoring. I remember how daunting the application process can be, particularly when you’re trying to work out what medical schools are actually looking for and how to prepare without sounding rehearsed. I want to make that process much clearer and more manageable for students.

My Medicine interview sessions are focused on practical preparation rather than memorising model answers. We can work through motivation for Medicine, work experience, medical ethics, NHS topics, communication and teamwork, personal qualities, roleplay and other common interview themes. Most importantly, I’ll help you understand why an answer works, identify areas for improvement and practise applying those skills to new questions.

I also offer A-level Biology and GCSE Biology and Chemistry tuition. I achieved A*AA at A-level, including an A in Biology and Chemistry, and understand how important it is to develop genuine understanding alongside exam technique. My lessons are tailored to the student, whether you need help understanding a difficult topic, improving your exam answers, working through past-paper questions or building confidence before an exam.

I believe the best tutoring is personalised, interactive and encouraging. Rather than simply telling you the answer, I want to help you develop the confidence and skills to reach it yourself. Whether your goal is to strengthen your understanding of a subject or prepare for one of the biggest interviews of your academic journey, I’ll work with you to identify exactly what you need to improve and build a clear plan to get there.

If you’re applying for Medicine, preparing for interviews or looking to strengthen your Biology or Chemistry, I’d love to help you make that next step with confidence.

I believe the most effective tutoring is personalised, structured and focused on helping students understand how to turn their knowledge and experiences into successful outcomes.

Having recently gone through both A-levels and the medical application process myself, I understand first-hand how challenging these stages can be. I use this recent experience to help students navigate the process with greater confidence, providing practical guidance based on what I found genuinely useful when applying to Medicine.

Medicine Interview Preparation

My own medical interviews at the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) were all successfully converted into offers. This gives me first-hand experience of preparing for different interview styles and of what it is like to perform under the pressure of a real medical interview.

My lessons are practical and interactive, covering areas such as:

* Motivation for Medicine and choosing Medicine authentically
* Work experience and reflective questions
* Medical ethics and ethical scenarios
* NHS structure, values and current healthcare issues
* Communication and teamwork
* MMI-style stations and role-play
* Strengths, weaknesses and personal reflection
* Thinking through unfamiliar questions under pressure

Rather than teaching students to memorise model answers, I help them develop authentic, well-structured responses and the ability to think critically when faced with questions they have not prepared for.

I also provide personalised application guidance, including realistic insight into which medical schools may be suitable for a student based on factors such as their UCAT result and predicted grades. The aim is to help students make informed choices about where they are realistically competitive, rather than simply applying based on university reputation or popularity.

A-level Biology

For A-level Biology, my approach focuses on both understanding the specification and maximising marks in examinations.

I place particular emphasis on mark-scheme-specific exam technique. Knowing the Biology content is only part of the process; students also need to understand how examiners award marks and how to communicate their knowledge in the precise way required.

Lessons can include breaking down difficult concepts, working through exam-style questions, analysing mark schemes, identifying exactly where marks are being lost and practising how to improve answers. I aim to help students become increasingly independent in recognising what a question is asking and constructing answers that meet the mark scheme.

Lesson structure

Lessons are tailored to each student's starting point, goals and areas for improvement. A typical session may involve reviewing previous work, identifying weaknesses, teaching a specific concept or technique, completing targeted practice and finishing with clear, actionable feedback.

Lessons are typically 1 hour, although longer sessions can be arranged where appropriate, particularly for mock interviews or intensive preparation.

I am a current medical student at the University of Manchester and achieved A*AA at A-level, including an A in Biology. Because I have recently experienced both the A-level and medical admissions processes myself, I understand the challenges students are facing and can provide a relatable, current perspective alongside structured academic and interview support.

My lessons are suitable for A-level Biology students and students applying to Medicine, whether they are looking to improve their exam performance, strengthen their interview technique, build confidence or make more informed decisions throughout the medical application process.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you on your journey to medicine :)
