About GBOYEGA

Every piano lesson I teach is rooted in the belief that music is a language of both structure and soul. My teaching method combines traditional technique with creative freedom, giving students the technical tools they need to play confidently and the expressive insight to interpret music meaningfully. We begin with fundamentals—posture, finger strength, hand coordination, and rhythmic integrity—and expand into expressive playing through phrasing, tone shaping, and musical storytelling. Whether you're learning your first scales or preparing advanced repertoire for a recital or exam, I tailor lessons to match your goals and pace. I integrate music theory and ear training into lessons not as separate subjects, but as living elements of the pieces students are working on. I also emphasise listening skills—how to hear your own dynamics, correct subtle timing issues, and make interpretive decisions. One of my most rewarding experiences was with a student who initially struggled with rhythmic precision; together, we built custom rhythmic drills tied to their favourite songs, which not only improved their timing but rekindled their excitement about learning. I often incorporate improvisation and simple composition to spark creativity and give students a sense of authorship in their musical journey. I use a mix of analogue and digital tools, including recording apps, notation software, and practice logs, to help students track their growth and stay inspired. I believe that music education should be rigorous but never rigid, and my goal is to help each student develop both technical fluency and personal expression in a safe, positive environment.

Teaching piano requires both patience and passion, and I bring both to every lesson. I create a warm, supportive environment where students feel comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and developing at their own pace. My teaching method starts with establishing solid technical foundations like correct posture, hand shape, and finger independence, which are essential for fluid, injury-free playing. We combine this with fun, engaging repertoire tailored to the student’s taste—whether that means classical sonatinas, jazz standards, film soundtracks, or popular songs. I believe understanding music theory deepens appreciation and skill, so I introduce it contextually alongside practical playing exercises. I encourage students to explore their creativity through improvisation and composition, which helps internalise musical concepts and fosters personal expression. Practice routines and goal setting are vital components of my approach, as they help students stay motivated and measure progress. I also use technology such as recording tools and apps for rhythm and ear training, making lessons interactive and measurable. One particularly rewarding experience was helping a student with dyslexia develop confidence and skills on the piano through tailored strategies and positive reinforcement. My goal is to inspire students to enjoy music and build skills that support a lifetime of playing.
