About Jillian
I have been officially tutoring college students since February 2021, and have tutored/assisted my classmates since 2019. The students I tutor are typically 18-24 years old. I have experience tutoring Foreign-Exchange students from Miami University, and many of my students are POC, part of the LGBTQ+ community, the disabled community, etc. I am also the Co-Editor-in-Chief of a literary publication at Miami University, so much of my work revolves around emphasizing the voices of the oppressed.

I've always enjoyed reading and writing, but I know how difficult and frustrating it can be. I would love the opportunity to help students gain confidence in their ability to read and write and to guide them with patience and encouragement. I teach differently depending on each student's needs. For example, if the student is struggling with close reading, I would read along with them and ask them to take note of observations/things that stood out to them. If a student is struggling with grammar/organization/punctuation, etc., I would review their essay and have them read it aloud for me. When my students read their own essays aloud, I find that they tend to catch any mistakes right away.
