About Heather

About Me: With a strong background in math education and student-centered learning, I’m passionate about helping learners shift from “I’m not a math person” to “I’ve got this.” My tutoring sessions blend patience, encouragement, and effective strategy in every lesson. I have worked in primary and middle school classrooms as a lead teacher since 2009, and continue to do so. Hands-on, core memory style learning is my goal; students remember what they enjoy. These lessons are followed by plenty of practice before moving on to real-world applications.

About the lesson

Middle School Math Tutor — Cultivating Confidence, Curiosity, and Conceptual Clarity As a dedicated Middle School Mathematics Tutor, I specialize in helping students not just understand math, but actually enjoy it. My approach focuses on making math feel intuitive, accessible, and even fun—transforming confusion into clarity and stress into success. What Sets My Tutoring Apart: Conceptual Understanding First: I use strategies like “Notice and Wonder” to help students deeply engage with mathematical ideas, building lasting comprehension rather than surface-level memorization. Customized Skill-Building: Every student learns differently. I adapt lessons to meet your child where they are, helping them build confidence through targeted practice and real-world connections. A Love for Learning: Math anxiety is real—but it’s also reversible. By creating a safe space for questions, mistakes, and “aha” moments, I foster curiosity and pride in progress. Aligned with Curriculum: Whether it’s fractions, algebraic thinking, geometry, or problem-solving strategies, my sessions support and extend what’s being taught in class. Subjects Covered: Grades 5–8 Mathematics Pre-Algebra & Foundations of Algebra Word Problem Strategies
