About Mikayla
My mother is an artist: an interior designer and architect. Ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil she encouraged and supported my artistic endeavors, even my more eccentric creative work. Eventually, through this narrative I became an artist; Today, making art and teaching it gives me a sense of purpose in life.
I am familiar with every discipline contemporary fine art is defined by, and have dabbled in those mediums (i.e. material and creation technique used); However, my specialty lies in pencil drawings and oil paintings.
I am thoroughly educated in the following degree programs: BFA and BA in Art/ Minor in Studio Art; For, I wanted to get a BFA in Art from Chapman University (but I ended up transferring schools and switching my major).
When I graduated college, I got a BS in Fashion Merchandising and Minor in Studio Art from Texas Christian University.

As an art tutor, my unique teaching methods and techniques are expressed in a personal and particular way: articulated by a variety of learned practices, habits, and beliefs summarized over many years as an art student.
I cater my lesson plans to my students' wants and needs to ensure each and every student is provided with the best possible experience, when sharing my knowledge .
Typically, I will review the syllabus and make a plan with the student based on their progress or lack thereof; Also, depending on the course criteria, important due dates, and materials required.
My art lessons can be just for fun or for those who seek a fine arts (BA or BFA) degree; beginner to advanced in level or class. The lessons can be general or specific to the different subjects in art, as I am well versed in many of them (I was a former student declared in the BFA Art program at Chapman University).
I took AP studio art in high school, so I know how to create a portfolio of work to submit for an AP score, and understand the application and portfolio submission process for college.
I live in San Diego, California as an underpaid freelance artist, so tutoring helps me make a better living for myself and I enjoy it! With that said, I would be happy to tutor you, or your son/daughter in art.
