I believe that the best way to teach students psychology is by providing practical knowledge and exposure in various areas associated with branches of psychology. For example: a student of clinical psychology must not only just study the theory of psychological disorders in terms of their symptoms, causes and treatment but gain hands on experience that will enable them to understand the subject thoroughly. They must be taught how to identify symptoms, study the causes and make the right decision and provide appropriate treatment for which they may need 'training' in conducting various therapy sessions.
Not only practical sessions, but I would like to provide power point presentations and other tools for them to understand the subject better. Also, interacting with them is the best way to bring the best out of the students.

  • What motivates you to teach and why?

The love I have for my subject, psychology is the biggest motivating factor. Teaching not only helps students learn the subject but also stimulates our thought process and intellectual ability. Also, it helps me keep myself updated with my subject and strengthens my knowledge of the field.
  • When did you start developing an interest in your subject area?

I developed the interest in my subject ever since I was a young girl (school days).
  • If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of and why?

I cannot name one since every theorist has made extremely sensible contribution to the field. However, the first name that occured to me was Sigmund Freud who was well known for his psycho analysis and the fact that he explained how human behaviour may be mostly driven by the unconscious state of mind. It is perhaps, fascinating to learn about someone of his time to think of it that way!
  • What is the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in mastering your craft?

The education system that I suppose could potentially curb human creativity conditioning us to think and act in a certain manner
  • In your opinion, what makes someone excel in your subject area?

Getting good grades at school/college does not quite make someone a good psychologist it is the ability to be sensitive, empathetic and understand human behaviour and act accordingly beyond what may be taught to us or the training that may be provided to us.
  • What would you say to a student who says, "This is too difficult, I give up!"?

Take a deep breath! There are times we all go through such a situation. But, we must be strong enough to survive this moment. You can do it...It's not a big deal. Once you are done you will realise how easy this was!
  • How does someone become a Super Teacher?

Being sensitive and empathetic to students and giving them space to learn at their own pace without much pressure. Motivation is the key!
