About Tharushi

I am a friendly tutor who loves to make learning interesting, approachable, and fun! I have tutored at two companies and privately for over five years, and I love watching my students crush their goals. I hope to share my passion for English and maths with you!

I am a Monash university graduate and attended the selective MacRobertson Girls' High School.

About the lesson

Class structure for English

1) Reading comprehension exercise to test the student's critical analysis skills. About a third of the class time involves answering questions regarding the text. We may spend some extra time breaking down the language or vocabulary used if it's new to the student and formulating meaningful, detailed responses to questions about the text.

2) Grammar or vocabulary exercises. We cover a variety of topics, with a focus on filling any critical gaps in grammar. The student will learn new vocabulary words weekly and how to use them effectively in writing.

3) Spelling test. Any incorrect words should be put into sentences for homework and practised over the week.

4) Essay writing. Each week we cover either persuasive, analytical or creative writing. I will work on increasing clarity of expression and flow while establishing structure.

Class structure for maths

For mathematics, we will follow a similar structure, depending on the maths topic you would like to cover. Starting off with introducing the topic and the theoretical basis, going through a few examples together, working with the student on questions and then consolidating with a quick quiz.

I always try to break down difficult concepts to make them easy to understand, with real-life examples to keep it fun and relevant to you! I have a relaxed, easy-going and friendly communication style, and am open to any questions you may have. I have tutored at two large companies and have private tutored for over five years. I am currently taking students from primary to Year 9. Lessons last one hour or longer, depending on what you'd like.
