About Alan
Hi!!
I have been tutoring for years.
No I do not have a teaching license/certificate.
Perhaps that is what gives me an advantage because I am not restricted to any traditional/formal teaching "methodologies".
However, I still adhere STRICTLY to the course syllabus. I only use the textbooks, workbooks, class notes, handouts, and websites that the Teacher for THAT class uses (like Khan Academy and Delta Math).
I just teach using a different and (better?) approach.
Throughout my life, I often see connections between many (seemingly) unrelated things. This ability has helped me tremendously when I'm tutoring online. Whenever that happens, I simply open up another tab, do a quick search, show it to the student, and then explain how the two things are in fact, quite related. That helps the students understand the original topic much better and also shows them the connections and interrelationships between things.

Math is of course the most difficult subject for most kids. However, DESPITE the subject, almost EVERY time, I seem to be able to make an almost INSTANT "connection" with KIDS! I explain - SLOWLY, using EVERYDAY words and expressions that kids ALREADY know and use EVERY day. I use COMMON objects in their home, usually RIGHT IN FRONT of where we are sitting - to EXPLAIN IDEAS. I use my hands to form SHAPES to create VISUAL examples of what I am explaining.
However, my teaching skills are by no means restricted to STEM.
I am most accomplished at essay writing, editing, and literature, as well as Social Studies (Global for example).
It is nice for me to actually SEE their faces "LIGHT UP" with UNDERSTANDING and COMPREHENSION (I suppose because no one ever explained it to them that way before.)
