About Anya
I'm friendly, enthusiastic and genuinely love talking about chemistry and sharing my knowledge. I grew up in the Garden Route before moving to Stellenbosch where I spent 6 years studying and left with a BSc in Chemical Biology, BHons in Chemistry and an MSc in Polymer science.
Although I do enjoy my full-time job, I always miss the interactions that I have with my students and the satisfaction of knowing that I made a difference in someone's marks but also how they feel about a subject.

I'm fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans and have taught all subjects in both languages. The first session with a student involves finding out where they are in the curriculum, how well they did in exams or tests and finding out where the gaps in their knowledge are.
Thereafter, I try to make sure they keep up with the topics being covered at school so that they don't fall behind while patching the gaps. First, I ask what they understand about the topic, then I explain it in my own words, then I have us do a question together before I ask a few questions to test their knowledge.
