About Luca
I have recently finished my Masters (Research) degree at the University of Aberdeen. I have special interest in oncology, spatial biology and the role of public and patient engagement in research. I have been investigating the role of tumour microenvironment (TME) in male breast cancer using spatial transcriptomic and proteomic techniques. I am a published scientific author, have spoken at an international conference and attended several other conferences and public/patient engagement events. Currently, I am looking to progress my academic and professional career through tutoring! I have a great understanding and knowledge of Biology all the way from Nat4/5/GSCE to Higher/A-Level to Advanced Higher/University level.

My approach to tutoring centres on building a strong overall understanding of each subject. I tutor using active learning strategies like collaborative problem-solving and regular homework/live assessments to gauge where we're at with a particular subject. My teaching methodology is heavily influenced by the way I was taught to learn, via emphasising the importance of the student's role in building upon their own knowledge. I believe in creating a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking risks!
My qualifications include an undergraduate degree in Genetics (Upper Second-Class Honours) and a Postgraduate research degree in Medical sciences (with Distinction). I of course also completed 5 Highers (Scottish A-Level Equivalent) at first attempt, including human biology (A-grade) and then went on to complete Advanced Higher Biology (B-grade) also. I have experience aiding undergraduate students during my time as a postgraduate research student, as well as helping my younger siblings through their biology exams during school (A and B grades).
Lessons are normally an hour, allowing time for questions and feedback. However, this is up to the student, and I can adjust the lesson duration based on the student's needs/level.
