Design & Technology Textiles: GCSE & A-Level
I have many years of experience in teaching the theory of textiles - how the fabric is made, where it comes from, what properties a fabric has and why you would choose it for a particular garment. I can teach about the fashion industry (the good and the bad) and fashion history. (To GCSE and A Level). Textiles theory content is huge and there is a lot to learn I can teach this theory in a fun, interactive hands-on way so that students can really get to grips with the content enabling them to improve performance in their theory exam.
I am also able to give guidance to students with their coursework projects whether this is designing, sampling, garment construction help, presentation, or evaluation.
Design & Technology Theory:
I am also able to teach the theory for GCSE resistant materials - Properties of wood/plastic/metal, where they come from and why they would be used. All the theory I teach will be taught from high-quality educational resources.
Art Textiles:
I can teach students how to do a huge range of decorative textiles techniques than can then be incorporated into garments, home decor pieces or artwork.
Those techniques include -Applique, reverse applique, free machine embroidery, quilting, smocking, slashing, crashing, and weaving. I can also teach about dyeing and printing, silk painting, batik, and the creation of repeat patterns. I am always learning new techniques, so this list expands often.
I can give guidance in making creative sketchbooks and portfolios, I can help instruct how to research artists/designers and take inspiration from their work to create your own samples and present those in eye-catching ways. I can show you how to draw fashion illustrations and design clothing to be made as final pieces. I can work with you on new and exciting ways to present work in your sketchbook by creating backgrounds and interesting layouts, this can really help elevate your work.
Photography:
My degree is in fashion photography so I can teach film and digital photography, how to use your camera manually, lighting and studio photography skills, photograph composition and many other creative photography techniques.
I can teach you how to use your camera or phone to take professional-looking photographs, how to look at a photographer's work and respond to it with your own creations, and how to produce a creative mixed media sketchbook that shows your artistic skills.
Fashion:
I can offer instruction in making clothing using a sewing pattern- You choose the sewing pattern, and we can work through making the garment step by step together.
I can teach students how to use their sewing machine and make sure it is set up correctly and troubleshoot any sewing issues.
Portfolios:
Using my knowledge in creative subjects, I can help students who have not taken the traditional root of GCSE and A Levels to produce exciting, creative and engaging portfolios of work to further their career/educational aspirations.
