About Geraldine
I suppose I am just a literary geek who loves books and enjoys sharing that passion with the people around me. I love academia and the joys of making something previously inaccessible a part of their lives. I am this blend of a British educational system, American pop culture, and Singaporean sentiments, so I have noticed that these elements help me resonate and connect with students better :) Lastly, I just love what I do. It is so cliche to say, but I do mean it. It is all I do now, and I have not looked back since. I think it is the dimensionality of the profession that I like. Having been a journalist and in the Communications field before making the emotional switch, I have realized that I bring those elements into my teaching, and that it works well. I love actually understanding the issues students face, in all their capacities. I then go in and essentially, sort it out. I do not engage in short-term, test-based teaching, such as memorizing for a spelling test or simply seeking the correct answer to earn a grade. I am very process-oriented, as I believe that it is a sustainable model that will help students with any paper after and in life as well. If a student is very focused on the technical aspects of study, I may not be the perfect fit, as I love finding the way to help, and that is sometimes not a straight path :) The process and the result are the priorities - that is all. I am surprised myself that me simply wanting a student to understand the point of the examination helps them actually ace it.
