My name is Hang Zhou and I graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Special Education (Learning Behavior Specialist I) in 2019. I currently have 6 years of experience in the field.

About Hang
I come from a very similar background based on my career path. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6 and started receiving special education services during my years in grade school. This is where I truly found my passion and decided that special education was going to be my path. I am also born in China and came to America at the age of 6 as well. Therefore, I am also very fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

I am a firm believer in differentiating instruction for each individual student as everybody learns in different ways. For example, one of the strategies I used is flexible grouping, especially for Mathematics. Specifically, I put students in different groups and set up work stations based on their ability level(s). I always have a very diverse group of students each year. Some students in my room were working on counting numbers (1:1 correspondence) and others were already working on addition and subtraction. With this in mind, I set up the stations in a way that one of the stations involved placing numbers using candy on a ten frame while counting aloud while the other station involved placing different color linking cubes and combining them to find the sum. What makes me unique is that I have also personally come from a very similar background. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6 and received special education services myself while in grade school. I truly appreciated and enjoyed all the support(s) that were given to me during my grade school years. This is why I decided to pursue a career in special education so I can help others like me! I am also fluent in Mandarin Chinese and can be of assistance if needed.
