My approach changes depending on the guy I help. I think that each of us learns differently and that in some cases a more theoretical approach is more effective than a more practical one. I try to understand which one is best suited to the case. Generally I try to make practical and intuitive examples that best represent the problem and then analyze it from a theoretical point of view. I rely on the textbooks provided to the student by the school.
