About Omar
I first trained as a biochemist at the University of Liverpool (2005-2008), where I won an entrance scholarship and two undergraduate prizes for achievement, leaving with a first class degree.
I will be graduating with a medical degree (MBChB, Hons) from the University of Liverpool in July 2019, graduating in the top ten percent of my cohort. I will subsequently start work as a junior doctor at Aintree Hospital in August 2019.
I have tutored privately for over ten years and currently work at a local tuition centre in my native Liverpool, specialising in GCSE and A Level Biology.
Teaching is an all-consuming passion and it is my aspiration to inspire students to follow whatever their passion may be-especially in the sciences!

My teaching methodology is three fold:
1. Create a safe space. In my lessons, there may be incorrect answers, but there are no stupid ones. My lessons are a safe space to explore and grow in your knowledge of the subject, without fear of judgment. I’m genuinely interested in what you think as my student; I want to be guided by what you think is best for your learning needs-interrupt me if you don’t understand and tell me if I’m being patronising by rehashing old ground! I’m a firm believer that students learn better when encouraged than when admonished and that the learning process works better for all when students are allowed a voice in the classroom.
2. Interact and engage. Unidirectional lessons can be useful, but they’re not very good at getting us to think outside the box! I want you to be challenged, but I want you to be engaged, interacting with the lesson material and subject matter and wherever possible, have fun doing so. To that end, my lessons are interactive and immersive, making use of bespoke icebreakers and unique applications of the lesson material.

-An icebreaker
-Lesson material
-Exam questions to reinforce the subject matter
3. Future facing. Classroom teaching is very often divorced from the future application it will one day be necessary for. To that end, I am interested not only in my students’ exam scores, but their future aspirations and where possible, I am interested in helping students to practically achieve that future. I adapt my teaching style and content to consider the students’ future career aspirations. This helps students to see a bigger picture than one particular letter on an exam statement.
Practicalities:
-I will provide materials, including a set of notes on request. I teach interactively and students can annotate the notes as they wish, confident that the core material is being covered.
-I do NOT routinely provide homework unless specifically requested. It has been my observation that my students have enough pressure from schoolwork and do not need even more from myself. However, if I am asked for it, I’ll gladly give it.
-I will provide short progress reports at agreed intervals (usually once every six weeks) with regular assessment periods to assess progress.
-Bring your passion and energy-I’ll certainly be bringing mine!
