About Tamina

I am a native English and French speaker, who grew up in London and attended a French school for 14 years. I speak both languages fluently, but my own experience of learning Spanish and Ancient Greek at school has allowed me to understand what the challenges faced by students in language-learning are. I have a thorough understanding of grammar and believe it is a key tool in understanding language, whether it be native or foreign, so I am keen to break down the rules of French and English for their irregularities to seem more manageable.
My undergraduate degree was in English literature, which I undertook in the UK's first English studies department, at Durham University. I received first-class honours and am keen to share my love and understanding of literature with anyone who will listen - I know it can sometimes be alienating and difficult to hack.
My personal statement also got me an interview at Oxford university, as well as an offer from Durham. I offer help with writing cover letters, job applications, and personal statements, with the aim of making these seem less forced, whilst remaining packed with information and well-written.

About the lesson

I'm a flexible teacher, I adapt lessons, content, and structure to the needs of each student as they present themselves. I'm comfortable planning lessons ahead, supplying work and practice materials between lessons. However, I'm equally at ease with being spontaneous each time and answering questions and tackling difficulties as they come. I'm conscious that, often, teaching needs a combination of both.
I've been teaching different subjects (French language, literature; English language, literature, written & oral expression; personal statement writing) for a number of years. I have taught children in nursery, as well as as secondary school students, university students, and adult learners. I will adapt lesson length to whatever is requested, but I tend to think an hour-long session suits most young adults and adults.
