About Catherine
I have been providing one-to-one French tuition to children and adults in London since 2012. Over these 4 years I have helped over 30 students referred to me by language agencies, word of mouth or sourced directly. I have worked with most of them for over 2 years, and have excellent references.
My approach is to tailor my lessons to the students’ individual needs and expectations – personal, professional or exam-related – and to create courses that focus on learning through enjoyment as well as exposure to the French culture. I use a wide range of course books as well as customised online material on relevant and interesting topics (current affairs, art etc.)
I am a very professional, patient and friendly person with a natural ability to build relationships with people from all ages, backgrounds and nationalities.
As well as tutoring school-age children and teenagers learning French at school and preparing for GCSE or A-level exams, I have also worked with some British and foreign graduates preparing for French oral exams in the UK (including Oxbridge) or in France.
I also have the experience of tutoring primary school children following the French curriculum through distance learning (eg CNED). I have 3 children myself (aged 17, 15 and 13) who have attended both the French Lycee and English schools so I am familiar with both British and French systems.
I work with a number of adults who have a personal motivation for learning French or improving their current knowledge (plan to go and live in France, holiday house, French partner, or interest in French culture). I am familiar with the European DELF and DALF language qualifications.
Prior to tutoring I have worked for 15 years in international business and marketing in France and in the UK. I have also developed counseling and coaching skills working for charities (domestic violence, parenting) and on consultancy projects with a business school in the UK. Drawing on this diversity of experience I also offer language and business coaching services to professionals involved with the French market: speaking and communicating with French clients and colleagues, preparing sales pitches to French businesses, or helping postgraduate business students present their research findings to a French university panel.
